Baruch Gottlieb and Francesca Romana Ciardi are looking for 100 people interested in becoming a part of a unique site-specific and monumental performance, manifesting the living history of industrial architecture. Set in the unusual and suggestive setting of ExRotaprint, a former printer factory in Wedding, the Biographical Chronicle of Industrial Production retraces the stories of the people who produced the world we live in today.

Using a model of the construction of the ExRotaprint factory, participants will re-present the workers originally involved in the construction of the building over 60 years ago by appearing ‘on stage’ for a time proportional to the the historical person they are representing. This time ‘on stage’ will generally be quite short, on the average 5 seconds at a time...The rest of the participants, when not on stage or getting ready to go on stage, will produce background sounds ‘back stage’ for the performance. The sounds will consist of physical sounds like shuffling feet and vocal sounds like whispering, murmuring and humming.

The performance will take place on the outdoor grounds of ExRotaprint in Wedding, on May 27th 2012 at 3pm and will finish at approximately 330pm. Participants are requested to arrive on location two hours before the showing, at 1pm, for a run through. No previous performance experience necessary but a genuine desire to be part of a unique project that daringly traces the collective histories and memories of people and their labour.

If you want to be part of Biographical Chronicle of Industrial Production please fill out the online form below. You will be contacted again mid-May with updates about the project. Please feel free to pass on this call for participation to your family and friends. We are looking for people of all ages, gender and ethnicity.

This project is non-funded. Every participant will receive a commemorative Biographical Chronicle of Industrial Production ballpoint pen. Snacks and beverages will be available.

For Karolina Magnusson-Murray’s one to one performance:
Daddy I Have Had To Talk To You…

Having never known my Father, men of a certain age pose and represent both a challenge and a mystery to me.

Therefore I create encounters with older men to explore
father/daughter roles and relationships, listen to father/daughter stories and satisfy my curiosity about the lives of older men.

I would like to invite men over 50 to join me and talk to me about stories they have.

The one to one performance event will take 20mins.

My work explores identity, memory, social isolation, intimacy and imagination (the psyche) and could create dialogue between different ages and cultures, as well as blurring the boundaries between audience and performer.

Having carried out this type of performance before in various arts festival settings, I would be grateful of the opportunity to carry out this performance in Berlin with new and exotic participants.

Would you like to host an innovative networked event from your home, as part of a simultaneous event at the Brighton Fringe Festival in the UK?

"make-shift" (http://www.make-shift.net) is a is a unique and intimate networked event that speaks about the fragile connectivity of human and ecological relationships. It takes place simultaneously in two houses, connected via the internet and a purpose-built online interface. Paula Crutchlow and Helen Varley Jamieson (one in each house) work with participants in the houses to present scripted and visually poetic performance interspersed with webcam videography, avatar puppetry and audience interaction. Everything is streamed to online audiences who can also contribute text chat visible on the interface to everyone throughout the event.

On May 11, 12 & 13 "make-shift" will be presented at the Brighton Fringe Festival, with Paula in Brighton and Helen in Berlin; we have a house lined up for the 11th and 12th, but we are still searching for a house/apartment and host(s) in Berlin for the afternoon of Sunday 13 May. The house needs a stable internet connection, a light-coloured wall suitable for projection, and space for 8 or 10 participants to gather. More information is on the web site, http://www.make-shift.net and click on "hosting make-shift" - or email brokers@make-shift.net.

"make-shift" is an ecologically aware house party with a difference, bringing together people from around the world in a discursive, thought-provoking and fun event. The audience are invited to participate in various ways before, during and after the event, and their contributions are incorporated into future events as the project evolves.

Please email brokers@make-shift.net for more information about hosting the event in Berlin on May 13, or if you are interested in participating at the houses that weekend. If you would like to watch online, go to http://www.make-shift.net for a live link at the time of the event.
