CLOSING DAY - ESCAPE - INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE FESTIVAL (STARTED ON MAY 11TH)![]() (Click image to enlarge)
ESCAPE 2012 is the programmatic title of the International Festival planned and organized by Open Space Berlin and BLO- Ateliers. Escape is a geopolitical phenomenon associated with third world countries, or war zones which often leads to terrible humanitarian crisis on the borders of Europe and beyond. The question of whether or not escaping is possible has also been highlighted by the recent nuclear catastrophe in the highly developed country of Japan. With this mind, this theme has been consciously chosen to serve us as a screen and source of inspiration for an International Art Festival with a focus on performing arts, and cultural exchange between Asian, European, US- and South American artists and the local performance scene in Berlin.

PERFORMING LINES: LIVE PERFORMANCES![]() (Click image to enlarge)
What do drawing, walking, talking, mapping, writing, weaving, printing, crawling, dancing, observing, singing, thinking, painting, tracing and storytelling have in common? They all proceed along lines of one kind or another. Human beings generate lines wherever they go. Some of these lines are dominant, straight and clearly visible, others might be conceived as being lines of resistance, ghostly and meandering. Time is of course a line, but not necessarily linear in form. Space and place are criss-crossed and inhabited by lines of various kinds. Inspired by the book “Lines – A brief history” by Tim Ingold, „Performing Lines“ focuses on the practice of line creation. Experiencing the relation between movement, knowledge and creation, invited artists will explore the production and significance of lines through performances, performative installations and other media.
"I Think Not" (Live Performance, 12hours continuously) Dolanbay (Berlin/London/Istanbul) – www.dolanbay.com The Performing Lines programme continues on 26th, 27th and 28th |

Arantxa Martinez & Nilo Gallego www.teatron.com/nilogallego www.produccionsescopeta.org I like to hear the radio. I like to hear the radio accompanied by somebody. I like to hear the radio accompanied by somebody outdoors. I like public spaces with radio, its conversations, listeners who phone in, the inexperienced guests and wondering what the presenter looks like. EMISIONES CACATÚA (Cockatoo Emissions) is a performance as well as a radio broadcast. It´s part of the European project Special Issue, launched by Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers de Paris with the support of the European Union, to promote discourse, its practice and the orality within the context of performance art. TRAPS (20:00 dur. 20 min) Roberto Equisoain www.robertoequisoain.com Lies are mechanisms, constructions in which, in order to reach a goal, fictitious and real elements are mixed in a consistent, plausible way, capable of being believed. Nevertheless, sometimes errors are produced because to maintain a lie is the same as producing new lies and in this complex mechanism it is very easy to make a mistake. Lies are mechanisms, constructions as traps for catching animals. Through art it is often also intended to catch the trascendental, the being, God: that which is and which is not understandable. Lies are games which try to catch the idea of God and in doing so maybe they explain how the necessity of believing and having faith works, in spite of all evidencies for the non-existence of God. In order to do that, you must construct a trap, a lie and moreover, show that it is an erroneous and fictitious mechanism. HUNGER (21:00 dur. 20 min) Irina Makarova www.irina-makarova.com Civility and social class can all be identified by the jobs we have, and the clothes we wear. People like to have control and to attempt to transcend self control, proving that evolution has occurred and we have evolved more than others. However the ubiquitous feeling hunger, be it physical or social, will strip anyone clean of the glamorous facade back into the rudimentary being we all came from. Take away the simple comforts, the basics: food, warmth, social acceptance and we becoming nothing more than animals. The performance is a study of how quickly a person can spin out of control once their pedestal of comforts is removed from underneath them. |

[ MPA-B ϟ CONCEPTUAL ] DIRECT ACTION 2012![]() (Click image to enlarge)
DIRECT ACTION 2012 is a non curated performance festival taking place from May 18th-20th at the Abteilung Für Alles Andere in Berlin-Mitte, during the second edition of the Month of Performance Art – Berlin / May 2012.
Running for its third year, in close cooperation with the Institut Für Alles Mögliche, [ DA12 ] will feature a wide range of performances and experimentations from international artists and students from the Academy of Visual Arts in Liepzig. The festival topic this year focuses on text and performance and it's a first tryout to bring artists together in the frame of non-expressive and non-dramatic actions, and to highlight artistic practices in relation to writing, as well as to the act of writing in general. Over the course of three days [ DA12 ] will create an open and international platform for multi-layered actions, discussions, and networking in this field, with the idea of providing a platform for people working with different approaches and practices in the realm of performance, and to enable them to show their own positions, to inspire and to instigate a vivid and direct interaction, The festival is explicitly oriented towards lesser known or unknown performance artists, with the scope of providing them with an opportunity to make experiments and show their work at a festival. In addition, artists already working in the field of performance and text have been invited in order to build a broader range of different positions and practices within the festival theme, and to incite a continuous discussion on contemporary Performance Art. [ DA ] also promotes the concept of “work-in-progress”, giving the participants an opportunity to discuss and develop their work during the festival, or even to create new work without the pressure to finish projects. [ DA ] took place for the first time in September 2010 at the Institut Für alles Mögliche in Berlin with 26 participating artists from seven different countries. In May 2011 the festival was presented in the frame of the first edition of the Month of Performance Art - Berlin. 76 artists from 26 countries followed the call for performance on/for video. Almost all the participants' works were shown during a two-day screening that was accompanied by a programme with invited live acts such as Oliver Breitenstein (DE), Mike Edgerton (USA/NL) and Marion Ritzmann (CH). The screening programme was later shown at exhibitions in Hannover and Penzance, UK. ALICE IN ANIMALAND: A BODY TALE PERFORMANCE + MIZAR OPEN CLUSTERS: PERFORMANCE ART LIVE![]() Mizar Open Clusters by Eru and Seven of Eglise
ALICE IN ANIMALAND
15:00-17:00 by Fenia Kotsopoulou and Simona Di Lucchio www.feniakotsopoulou.de The atmosphere in Cell63 is constantly changing. Every artist who passes through leaves something of himself in the space. But this space is already inhabited by a being called Alice. She comes from Animaland – a land of the unforeseen and the untold. In a series of performances in Cell63, the changing exhibitions of Images, Photos, and Illustrations become for Alice an inspiration to tell an evolving body tale. This time she brings herself nine secret words. To finish the story and be able to go on, Alice needs to find the 10th element, The key-word. What kind of world is the Animaland? What body tale does Alice bring from there this time? What will she take with her this time? Which is the missing element? The greek dancer and performer Fenia Kotsopoulou will follow these questions in an intenseperformance research. MIZAR OPEN CLUSTERS 17:00-onwards by Eru and Seven of Eglise www.eru7eglise.kunstwirkstoff.de The collaboration research between Eru (Alexander Rues) and Seven of Eglise (Dagmar I. Glausnitzer-Smith) is the exploration of the idea of presence between two simultaneous actions: experimental, improvised sound work and Performance Art Action. The presentation of the work by Eru and Seven of Eglise is always live and invites for a different image-sound perception. The two artists are not aware of each other’s actions and purposely carry no prior knowledge of the individual concepts. Only in the eyes of an audience or viewer two separate entities may collide, coincide or contradict each other’s spontaneous presence. The synthesis is always an image and the perception of times appears illusionary and the impression becomes transparent. Eru’s sound experimentations are based on the cosmic and molecular tones. The frequency of the year, C# with 136.10 Hz is the 32nd octave of the earth year. The base of this tone is the rotation of the earth around the sun, which is the cause for the changing of the seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. This is the second cosmic rhythm of our planet. As the frequency of the day influences the body, the frequency of the year influences the mind. The natural law determines the equivalence of octaves, which means tones within a distance of the octave have an identical, partial row of tones, have the same overtones with the help of the 'octavation process'. It is possible to calculate an octave-analogue sound to every re-occurring vibration. The perceptive ability to see as well as to hear is based on vibrations, but these oscillations are faster than acoustic signals, which are vibrating. For example if one were to continue to multiply up to the 74th octave, it is possible to perceive an octave-analogue colour. The octave analogue colour to the earth year is blue-green with 500.837 nanometre wavelength. Eru’s musical translation may be just one audible tone, ‚stringed’ and interpreted electronically. It is the intention for this project to present the work entitled „Mizar Open Clusters“. Mizar is a binary star system, which has a companion called Alcor, this is only faintly visible to the human eye. It is speculated that massive binary star systems near the centre of clusters create an X-ray burst of terrific strength for 10 seconds. These bursts have been reported in 1976 by Herbert Gursky at the Center of Astrophysics, Harvard University. This presumed paradox in the live Performance Art situation can consist of speculation and calculation, of probability and unpredictability happening at the same time, in the same space. Within the Performance duration of approximately 25 minutes, it is intended to explore the work towards a 10 second ecstatic audio and visual experience. © Dagmar I. Glausnitzer-Smith, Alexander Rues Germany 2012 |
ABOUT CELL63 ARTGALLERYBorn in Berlin in October 2009, from an idea of the Italian artist and curator Luisa Catucci, runned with the support of Igor Falcomatà, Cell63 Artgallery exhibits a large range of emerging artists from the international art scene. The gallery shows artworks from different backgrounds: illustration, painting, photography, graphic design, sculpture and installation. The selection of the art is made on the basis of the surrealistic and pop ambience that they represent: the connection with the world of bizarre, animated by fantastic characters at the borders of a dreamy waking and a realistic nightmare; the relations that bond in a dreamy way, human beings with rest of nature; and an old passion of the owner for fairytales, myths and legends; the dimension of the interior imagination, already shown by the number 63 itself, which in the Italian traditional numerology is the protector number of artists and dreamers. Cell63 artgallery is also a meeting point for eclectic performers. From Improvisation Dance to Body Art, from live music to theater, artists can find the right place for expressing creative ideas. Every opening combines one or more performances, elaborated on the exhibition concept. The exhibitions rotate every 6 weeks, more or less, with an Opening or an Event on the 1st friday of the month.A selection of original artworks and limited editions prints is always available and can be purchased in the gallery or online. The Chinese performance artist Yingmei Duan shows as part of the art exhibition PACKET - SOUP a performance on sustainability in Berlin. The focus of Duans work is the consideration of human instincts and desires. She questions social behaviors such as the assumption that we must always and everywhere be available, because we happen to have the technical possibilities for it. For the art project PACKET - SOUP Yingmei Duan invited her colleague Cai Qing to interpret the exhibition's theme. Following the two performances there will be an open discussion with Yingmei Duan and Cai Qing.

ABOUT SAVVY CONTEMPORARYSAVVY CONTEMPORARY – The laboratory of form-ideas is a lab of conceptual, intellectual, artistic and cultural development and exchange; an atelier in which ideas are transformed to forms and forms to ideas, or gain cognition in their status quo. This is achieved with respect to conception, implementation and contestation of ideas with/in time and space.
Every two months, SAVVY CONTEMPORARY will present an exhibition in its gallery space aimed at fostering the dialogue between “western art” and “non-western art”. In this light, a curator will be invited by SAVVY’s art direction to further invite an artist from Europe or North-America and another artist from Africa, South-America, Asia or Australia. This “trialogue” will be “moderated” by the invited curator. The process of the trialogue and its result will culminate in an exhibition and a publication to the exhibition. |

SOCIETY AND MAGIC BY IRIS SMEDS, LEO PARK AND LINNEA HANSANDER![]() (Click image to enlarge)
Society and Magic. Which do you prefer? Intertwined and co-operating, they build reality. Magic – dark, uncontrollable, and essentially metamorphosis. Society – created by humans, always there, and necessary for our co-existence. Or is that the other way around? The featured performance works are created by three of Sweden's most knowledgeable people on the subject. Underneath society is a thick layer of magic. Or is that the other way around?
IRIS SMEDS - IN ORDER TO EAT ANOTHER MANS SOUL www.irissmeds.com IN ORDER TO EAT ANOTHER MANS SOUL is a performance that explains art merchandise as a form of soul market – how you gain power and riches by eating artist souls. The performance will take form as a PowerPoint presentation with some supernatural effects. LEO PARK – NOIS SEGSNART CIRCUIT www.leopark.se NOIS SEGSNART CIRCUIT is part of a series of works which tell the story of how identity is created, and how we reproduce ourselves as social beings. This performance revolves around the circuit connecting the realm of the undefined with the realm of the rational. An individual's journey through this circuit proves to be painful. LINNEA HANSANDER – COACHED CANNIBAL KARAOKE www.linneahansander.com COACHED CANNIBAL KARAOKE is a performance ritual in which local participants are given the chance to identify their exploited cultural property and reclaim it through cannibalism. The performance uses projections, karaoke and food sculptures. Eliminate your colonisers, take their strength. It's easy - eat them. THIS PROJECT IS POSSIBLE THANKS TO THE KIND SUPPORT OF THE SWEDISH ARTS GRANTS COMMITTEE |
